PHILOSOPHY

Please find below the DEBASCA Philosophy

At DEBASCA, we strive to provide a high quality Outside School Hours Care & Vacation Care service that supports children, their families, and the wider community.

  • In relation to our children, DEBASCA is committed to supporting children’s growth, development and wellbeing. We acknowledge the importance of giving children free choice over their leisure time, and support children in understanding their rights and responsibilities within the service. Overall, we want to see that our children are happy, and supported in their emotional, physical, and social development.

  • In relation to our educators, DEBASCA is committed to having a high-quality team of educators who are passionate and engaged in their work with children. We value mutual respect and collaboration between all educators, children and families. Our educators will listen and respond with care and consistency, and self-reflect to continually improve and develop their practice.

  • In relation to our families and community, DEBASCA is committed to developing a valuable partnership with our families and communities. We acknowledge and celebrate the cultural diversity in our community and endeavour to have this represented in all parts of our program, building on the children’s knowledge and experience they gain from home, school, and the wider community.

  • In relation to the program, DEBASCA is committed to facilitate an inclusive program which meets the varied needs and interests of children. Our program is based on ‘My Time, Our Place’ (Framework for School Age Care) and the belief that children learn best through play, learning a variety of life skills. Educators will facilitate a thoughtful and collaborative program with input from all stakeholders.

  • In relation to the environment, DEBASCA is committed to providing a safe and sustainable environment. We also understand that risk is a natural part of life, and there are great benefits when play environments provide appropriate risk and challenge.  We aim to support children in their growth and development, building confidence, resilience and good decision-making skills in caring for themselves, others, and the environment.

Overall, we strive to build a community that is respectful, inclusive, and committed to continuous improvement.

This Philosophy was reviewed in consultation with the families, staff, management and children of DEBASCA (November 2021.)
